Reach Out and Contact Someone
Believe it or not, I used to be quite shy about contacting strangers. I’ve never been much of an extrovert until I really get to know somebody. Since being trained in journalism and PR, I have learned that in order to get any decent information about anything, you need to speak to someone directly, preferably an expert. Through dogged exercise of this theory, I was able to get over my phobia of tracking down people I’d like to speak to and then getting them on the phone for a round of probing questions. I do it in a nice and intelligent manner that hopefully makes these people like me, but at the end of the conversation, I always am sure to be more knowledgeable if not well liked. This has helped me professionally as well as personally.
Does anyone else have or had a fear of these sort of situations?

As a poet it is almost imperative these days to get involved in poetry readings and slams. Unfortunately for me public speaking is a definite phobia. I’ve tried it and it was not a pretty picture. As a result, that venue is temporarily closed.

Yes! I confess I do and that is my drawback. I’m also trained as a journalistm but chose to practice radio - the callers came to me.
I’m extremely backward in coming forward, so much so that when my car broke down and I was without transportm I’d prefer to walk or bus it, rather than ask someone for a lift. Yet, publoc speaking does not faze me - it’s thje asking someone for something, be it a job a lift; a cup of sugar even.
